Prohibited Business Models

In this article, you will learn which business models are not supported by Payrexx and therefore cannot be approved for account verification.

Not every company can use Payrexx Pay and Payrexx Pay Plus, Payrexx’s own payment providers. The list below will help you determine whether your business falls under the supported business models.

As a regulated company, Payrexx operates within the strict requirements of financial authorities, card schemes, and payment processors.

For this reason, it is not possible for us to accept every business model when it comes to Payrexx Pay and Payrexx Pay Plus. In particular, business models with prohibited or restricted product offerings, as well as those with a high default risk, must be declined.

The Following Services Are Considered Unsupported Business Models

Please note that the listed business models are representative, but not exhaustively complete.

1. Financial and professional services

Investment and credit services

  • Securities brokers; mortgage consulting or debt reduction services

  • Credit counseling or repair

  • Real estate opportunities

  • Credit instruments

  • Crowdfunding

  • Neobanks / Challenger banks

  • Money transmitters, check cashing, remittances, or money orders

  • Currency exchange, bail bonds, collection agencies

  • Law firms collecting funds for purposes other than paying fees owed to the firm for services rendered (e.g., firms cannot use Payrexx Pay and Payrexx Pay Plus to hold client funds, collection or billing amounts, disputed funds, etc.)

  • Bankruptcy lawyers

Virtual currency or stored value

  • Virtual currency that can be monetized, resold, or converted into physical or digital products and services or otherwise leaves the virtual world (e.g., Bitcoin)

  • Sale of stored value or credits managed, accepted, and issued by someone other than the seller

2. Regulated or illegal products and services

Gambling

  • Lotteries, auctions, sports forecasting, or odds-making

  • Fantasy sports leagues with cash prizes

  • Online gaming

  • Contests, sweepstakes

  • Gambling activities

Regulated products and services

  • Marijuana dispensaries and related businesses

  • Online pharmacies

  • Products and services with varying legal status depending on the state

  • Age-restricted goods or services

  • Toxic, flammable, and radioactive materials

  • Firearms, ammunition, or other weaponry such as knives, explosives, gunpowder, fireworks, and related goods

  • Telecommunications manipulation equipment, including jammers

3. IP infringement services

Adult content and services

  • Pornography and other obscene materials (such as literature, images, videos, etc.) depicting nudity or explicit sexual acts

  • Websites offering sexually related services such as prostitution, escorts, pay-per-view, or live adult chat features

  • Stores for +18 videos, gentleman's clubs, topless bars, or strip clubs

Violation of intellectual property, property rights, or human rights

  • Sale, distribution, or access to counterfeit music, movies, software, or other licensed materials without the proper authorization from the rights holder

  • Products or services that directly infringe or facilitate the infringement of trademarks, patents, copyrights, trade secrets, or the property or privacy rights of others

  • Any business or organization that engages in, encourages, promotes, or celebrates unlawful violence or physical harm to persons or property, or that engages in, encourages, promotes, or celebrates unlawful violence against a group based on race, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, or other immutable characteristics

Counterfeit or unauthorized sale of goods

  • Unauthorized sale or resale of branded/designer products or services

  • Sale of goods or services that are illegally imported or exported

4. Unfair, predatory, or fraudulent practices

Get rich quick schemes

  • Investment opportunities or other services that promise high rewards

Publication of mugshots or paid websites

  • Platforms that facilitate the posting and removal of content (such as mugshots), especially if the primary purpose of posting such content is to cause or threaten reputational damage

Valueless services

  • Sale or resale of a service that provides no additional benefit to the buyer

  • Resale of government offerings without authorization or added value

  • Websites that we, at our discretion, deem to be unfair, misleading, or predatory towards consumers

5. Products or services otherwise prohibited by our financial partners

Tobacco or drug paraphernalia

  • All services intended for the sale of tobacco (cigarettes, vapes, shisha, e-liquids)

  • All services intended for the sale of illegal drugs

  • All devices intended for the production or use of drugs (bongs, vaporizers, water pipes, etc.)

  • Sale of CBD or THC products

  • Sale of (legal) substances intended to mimic illegal drugs or that have the same effects as an illegal drug (e.g., Salvia, Kratom, etc.)

Pooling

  • Any form of licensed or unlicensed pooling of funds owed to third parties

  • Factoring or other activities designed to obscure the origin of funds

Multi-Level Marketing

  • Pyramid schemes

  • Network marketing

  • Referral marketing programs

  • Negative-response marketing and telemarketing

Pseudo-Pharmaceuticals

  • Pharmaceuticals and other products making health-related claims not approved or reviewed by the relevant local and/or national regulatory authority

Social Media Activities

  • Sale of social media activities (followers, likes, Facebook favorites, YouTube views, etc.)

  • Sale of online traffic or engagement

Credits for video games or virtual worlds

  • Sale of in-game currency (unless the merchant is the operator of the virtual world)

Travel companies

  • Travel booking or reservation services

  • Travel clubs

  • Cruises

  • Airline or private jet booking

  • Timeshare services

6. Services or businesses with high risk

  • Bankruptcy lawyers

  • Technical computer support

  • Psychic services

  • Prepaid phone cards, telephone services, and mobile phones, telemarketing, and telecommunications equipment

  • Dropshipping

  • Freight forwarding brokers

  • Negative-response marketing

  • Services for protecting against credit card and identity theft

  • The use of credit to pay for credit services

  • Any business that, in our opinion, presents an increased financial risk or legal liability, or violates the policies of the card network or bank

7. Use in a manner not consistent with the intended use or explicitly prohibited in the Payrexx service agreement

  • Use of Payrexx’s intellectual property without the explicit consent of Payrexx

  • Use of the Payrexx name or logo, including the use of Payrexx trademarks or service marks, in a manner not consistent with Payrexx or in a way that otherwise harms Payrexx or the Payrexx brand

  • Any action that implies a false endorsement by Payrexx or a connection with Payrexx

  • Using Payrexx Pay or Payrexx Pay Plus primarily as a virtual terminal (e.g., transmitting card transactions by manually entering card data)

  • Circumventing chargeback monitoring programs of the card network

  • Sharing cardholder data with other merchants for the purpose of cross-selling products or services

  • Processing where no goods/services are sold or no donation is accepted

  • Card testing
