Domain Name & DNS Set Up
Terminology
Domain Name
A domain name is a human-readable address that is used to access websites and other resources on the internet. It provides a way for people to easily navigate to websites without having to remember the numerical IP addresses that computers use to identify each other on the internet. Domain names are made up of two main parts: the top-level domain (TLD) and the second-level domain (SLD). For example, in the domain name "example.com," "com" is the top-level domain and "example" is the second-level domain.
DNS
DNS, or Domain Name System, is a system that translates human-friendly domain names into IP addresses that computers use to identify each other on the internet. When you enter a domain name into your web browser's address bar, your computer sends a request to a DNS server to resolve the domain name into the corresponding IP address. This process allows your computer to establish a connection to the correct web server hosting the website you're trying to access.
Different Options
It is necessary to choose a separate domain for your platform. There are several possibilities:
a separate main domain (second-level domain) for the Payrexx platform, e.g. myplatform.com.
a subdomain of your existing domain, e.g. pay.yourexistingdomain.com.
your existing main domain (second-level domain), e.g. yourexistingdomain.com.
Depending on the choice of domain, the set up process differs:
Separate main domain
You will receive 4 nameservers during the setup by Payrexx, which you have to deposit with your domain registrar.
Subdomain
You have to set up a DNS delegation for the subdomain and will receive 4 nameservers during the setup by Payrexx, which you have to add to your DNS zone of the main domain using NS records. Further information about DNS delegation: https://www.nslookup.io/learning/zone-delegation/
Existing main domain (not recommended)
Payrexx requires an export of your existing DNS zone of the domain. Payrexx creates a DNS Zone in the area of responsibility of Payrexx, with the data from your export. You then need to deposit the 4 nameservers of Payrexx with your domain registrar.
